What the Museo de la Revolución Covers

What the Museo de la Revolución Covers

Museo Histórico de la Revolución «Dionisio Meza Romero» presents accounts by former combatants of the Sandinista Popular Revolution. The museum is managed by members of the Asociación de Combatientes y Colaboradores Históricos «Héroes de Veracruz».

The displays include newspaper clippings, posters, photocopies of documents, photographs, murals and small wartime artifacts. Its permanent exhibition also covers General Sandino’s struggle and León’s insurrection, which ended with the revolutionary victory in 1979, through photographs, newspaper articles and personal stories.

The setting is part of the story too. The museum occupies León’s former Palacio Departamental, designed by architect Marcelo Targá in 1935 with neoclassical influences. Former combatants serve as guides and share personal experiences.
